When the class from Leadership Redwood City/Belmont/San Carlos wanted to know more about Legislative Advocacy, the Chamber’s Governmental Relations Committee were only too happy to help them out. In February the Governmental Relations Committee invited the Leadership Class to attend as they set aside an hour to hear a presentation by Assemblyman Joe Simitian on Legislative Advocacy. 1. Develop a relationship before you arrive (a year, an hour, a 15 minute phone call).

Understand what motivates your audience (i.e., the Member or his/her staff).

Understand what is possible and what is not.
