JoAnn Kemist Named Athena Award Winner

JoAnn Kemist, Athena Award Recipient

REDWOOD CITY, CA - January 6, 2004 ­ JoAnn Kemist has been named the Athena Business Woman of the Year by the Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce. One of the Chamber's highest honors the award is co-sponsored by Bay Area Bank. The Athena Award recognizes recipients for their demonstrated professional excellence, as well as their leadership role in community service and their assistance to other women in reaching their career goals. Long ago Bay Area Bank recognized the importance of the contributions made by women in the community.

Kemist is a senior Executive at Sequoia Hospital. In addition to multiple responsibilities at the hospital, her hands reach far into the health of our community. Through the American Heart Association, Kemist served as the AHA's first woman Chairman of the Board in San Mateo County and eventually rose to Chairman of the Board for the Western State's affiliate, which encompasses California, Nevada and Utah. She serves on the San Mateo County Hospital Consortium Board of Directors. Kemist is President of the Board of Directors for Pathways Home, Health and Hospice Agency and serves on the Pathways Foundation and Pathways Continuous Care Boards of Directors.

Kemist also serves on the Chamber's Economic Development and Governmental Relations Committees and was a co-captain for the Chamber's Membership Drive for the first time this year.

Kemist received her Masters of Science, Communication Disorders and Education (with honors) from the State University of New York; and her Bachelors of Science, Speech Pathology & Education (with honors) from the University of Nebraska.

The Athena will be presented to JoAnn at the Chamber's Annual Dinner on January 29, 2004 at the Hotel Sofitel.
