Message from the Chairman of the Board, Mike Giari

Mike Giari, Chairman, Redwood City/San Mateo Chamber of Commerce

For the first time ever, the Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce held a "Progress Seminar ReMixed" program on June 24. It attracted approximately 150 attendees to the modern, impressive Oracle Conference Center in Redwood City and was a great success. The program was not really a "ReMixed" or revisit of topics discussed at the Progress Seminar held in Monterey as much as it was a new program inspired by discussions at the Progress Seminar.

Rich Gordon, who inspired us all with his opening remarks on change in our communities at the Progress Seminar, did a fantastic job putting together a top notch group of speakers for the "ReMixed". The panel discussions about "The Psychology of Change" and "Beginning the Dialogue, Strategies for Civic Engagement" were conducted by experts in these areas. They gave the audience lots to think about and there was plenty of opportunity during the program for questions and interaction.

The "California Political Panel" with Bob Marks and Mark Simon, who always are a highlight at the Progress Seminar, provided a lively political discussion and presented sharp insights into today's headlines.

The overwhelming response from attendees makes it a sure bet that we will be planning to hold another ReMixed program after the 2006 Progress Seminar.

If you interest is local Redwood City politics, you wouldn't want to miss the upcoming Candidates' Forum to be held on Thursday, September 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., at the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood Shores.

Four seats are up on the Redwood City Council and it looks like there will be a lively and interesting campaign. All of the candidates are invited to participate and Chamber members should sign up to attend the Candidates' Forum as soon as possible. We expect this to be a sell-out.

Michael J. Giari
Chairman
