Chairman of the Board's Message

Jeff Gee, Chairman, Redwood City/San Mateo Chamber of Commerce

Happy New Year!  It is a pleasure and an honor to be your Chair this year.  Cheryl Angeles, Barry Jolette, Mike Giari and the Chairs before them have set the bar very high.  I look forward to the opportunity and the challenge to continue their legacy with Redwood City and our community.

A great big thank you to Cheryl for an outstanding year.  "Shop Chamber", the best ever Progress
Seminar, one of the largest Leadership classes to graduate, continued support of Kainos through our annual Wells Fargo Benefit Golf Tournament and many other programs and events keep our Chamber strong and connected with our community.  I hope that you will be able to join our Chamber family on January 24 at the Hotel Sofitel where we will recognize Cheryl’s leadership, honor the Chamber’s Person of the Year, and recognize the Business Woman of the Year and our Golden Apple honorees.

Our Executive Committee consists of a great group of leaders.  Our Vice-Chairs for 2008 are: Glenna Vaskelis, Sequoia Hospital, Vice-Chair, Community Development; Memo Morantes, Morantes Financial and Insurance Services, Vice-Chair, Membership Services; Jim Hartnett, Hartnett Smith & Associates, Vice-Chair, Business and Government Relations;and Ben Paul, NAIBT Commercial, Vice-Chair, Economic Development.  Rosanne Foust will serve as Deputy Chair, Larry Aikins,
Terrace Associates continues as our Chief Financial Officer, Cheryl Angeles will take on the mantle of Past Chairman of the Board and Larry Buckmaster as our President & CEO.

2008 also marks the Chinese Year of the Rat (February 7, 2008).  The Year of the Rat promises to be an exciting year, full of new beginnings and accomplishments.  Starting off the year is our annual Board Retreat where we be focusing on affirming our vision for the Chamber.  This vision will guide our workplan for the next several years.  The Chamber has strong leadership, an excellent series of programs for our members, is well respected by civic leaders and is very committed to our community.  With this solid foundation, affirming our vision will help us adjust our initiatives and programs and ensure that they are in alignment with the needs of our members and our community.

I look forward to seeing you at a chamber meeting or function soon, and cheers to 2008!

Jeff Gee
Chairman
