Chairman's June Message
During this last year the Chamber has participated in the countywide process
that has developed a list of key transportation projects which provide
capital and operational funding for the renewal of the
current Measure A which is set to expire in 2008. The term for the proposed
new measure is twenty five years and provides funding for highway, transit
and local transportation funds to our cities. It is vital to our economic
future that we continue to improve our transportation system. In March both
the C/CAG and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority Boards adopted
the list of projects for the November 2004 ballot. The proposed measure
would raise over two billion dollars when matched by other state and federal
funds. We will keep you informed on this effort as it moves forward.
The Chamberıs Leadership program has an extraordinary history of developing
leadership throughout San Mateo County. It brings leaders to the forefront
with a clearer understanding of San Mateo County and all of the challengess
that it faces. Over itıs history we have seen over 400 people go through
the program and we continue to work with
probably 30% of them in some capacity as they have
chosen to become involved in the community.
An opportunity to join these other community leaders as a Leadership
graduate is available to you when the
Leadership Class of 2004-2005 begins in September. The program runs for
nine months with class dates on the 2nd Friday of each month, from
8:00am-4:30pm at different locations. Each day focuses on an area of the
community - health care, business, education, public safety,
community service, city and county government,
transportation and housing and the all important, and popular, leadership
retreat.
