REDWOOD CITY, CA - January 17, 2003 - The Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce, its Immediate Past
Chairman of the Board, Jim Hartnett, and its Education Committee played a
key role in making the community's "Field of Dreams" project a reality.
The "Field of Dreams" project was an idea born from the need of hundreds of
East Redwood City youth for a place to play. Jim Hartnett brought together
substantial in-kind professional services, individual and foundation
community contributions, St. Anthony's Church, who provided $100,000 from
its savings and the final missing piece, $100,000 from Electronic Arts
Corporate Grants Program.
Built on a lot behind St. Anthony's Church, this "Field of Dreams" will
serve as many as 200 community kids providing a field which will be strictly
limited to use by youth, in a drug and gang free environment. They will be
able to practice on the field during the week with about ten soccer games
played on the field every weekend. Coaches will be provided from Chamber
Member, Mid-Peninsula Adult Soccer League.
In expressing his gratitude, Hartnett said, "Chamber Member Electronic Arts' $100,000 Impact Grant was instrumental to the completion of the "Field of Dreams" and a perfect example of how much corporate citizens contribute to a community's quality of life.
