Golden Apples to be Awarded
Pete's Harbor and Electronic Arts will receive the Chamber's Golden Apple
Award this year for their commitment to local education. The Golden Apple,
will be awarded this month at the Chamber's Annual Dinner and Awards
Recognition Banquet, Thursday, January 26 at the Hotel Sofitel. The Golden
Apple recognizes businesses that strive to make a difference in Redwood City
Schools.
Pete's Harbor has been giving to education (schools and libraries) for over
25 years. From supporting the Police Activities League building at Taft
Elementary School to helping fund the very first Charter School (Garfield),
to donating to the library fund at each elementary school and volunteering,
endorsing and funding every school bond measure, and supporting music in the
schools through their donations to the Redwood City Education Foundation.
Pete and Paula never said no to an education request.
Electronic Arts' support of local schools has been significant, creative and
reliable. The company targets its charitable giving to programs and projects
that benefit the community's youth. Their commitment to education has been
substantial ranging from large monetary grants, to hundreds of hours of
employee volunteer time, to consistent generosity in donating products to
local fundraisers and events.
EA's grants have gone to recruit and train teachers for the Redwood City
School District through Teach for America, to purchase and repair musical
instruments through the Redwood City Education Foundation, to provide
scholarships through the Sequoia Awards, to fund the Sequoia High School
Multimedia Lab, to fund the Community Learning Center for the
Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District, and a computer lab at
Taft School through the Redwood City PAL.
EA has also provided one-time grants to the Canada College Childcare
Development Center, Roy Cloud School, Sandpiper Elementary School, and the
Sequoia High School baseball team.
Pete's Harbor and Electronic Arts join previous recipients in doing their
part to demonstrate that "Education is Everyone's Responsibility."
