THE AMBASSADORS SELECTEDAS PERSON OF THE YEAR FOR THE REDWOOD CITY-SAN MATEOCOUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The Chamber Ambassadors were named the Chamber¹s Person of the Year by outgoing Chamber Chairman of the Board Cheryl Angeles, January 24, 2008 at the Hotel Sofitel.
This award, called the Chairman of the Board¹s Award, is the Chamber¹s highest. Created in 1970, its purpose is to recognize those who made the greatest impact on the success of the Chairman¹s year.
The Ambassadors are the public relations arm of the Chamber serving as a liaison the Chamber members. They serve as official greeters and representatives of the Chamber attending ground breakings and ribbon cuttings. They assist at various Chamber events from golf tournaments to Membership Mixers. They are the only group in the Chamber who have a requirement to earn points by their active involvement. This year they were particularly instrumental in helping the Chamber strive to reach its membership goal and promote the Chairman¹s ³Shop Chamber² Program. The Ambassadors this year earned an all time record 207,062 points.
The Ambassadors present that evening to accept the Award were, Co-Chief Ambassadors Keith Kadera and Leila Perreras; Jim Massey, David Amann, Grace Shem, Nori Jabba, Kelly Hooker, Dave Karow, Rick Lewis, John Nelson, Norm Gilbert and Steve Penna.
Other awards presented were the Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce Business Woman of the Year recipient, Janine McCaffery.
This year¹s Golden Apple Awards went to Costco and Nina and Keith Kadera, 1-800-DryClean. The Golden Apple Award recognizes the Business Members of the Chamber of Commerce who have made significant contributions to support Education in the Community.
The Chamber Annual Dinner and Recognition Banquet honored outgoing Chairman of the Board, Cheryl Angeles, SKS Management, and welcomed incoming Chairman of the Board Jeff Gee, Swinerton Management & Consulting.
In making her closing remarks Angeles talked of her accomplishments for the year a $38,000 check being presented to Kainos Home and Training Center as a result of the success of Wells Fargo Benefit Golf Tournament; the successful Chamber Leadership Program; the most attendees to the Progress Seminar; the ever popular ³Good Morning Redwood City²; and her ³Shop Chamber² program encouraging people to spend their dollars with other Chamber members.
Upon accepting the gavel Gee said he was honored to have the opportunity to lead the Chamber in 2008 and recognized Angeles for the great job she had done. He spoke about the recent Board Retreat and the vision statement which was developed. He said that the Board recognized the strengths of the Chamber and would continue its impressive Program of Work, but would, at the same time strive to become even more effective as representatives of the business community.
