Memo Morantes Named Person Of The Year 2004
REDWOOD CITY, CA - January 20, 2005 Memo Morantes, owner of Morantes Financial and Insurance Services, was named the Chamber’s Person of the Year by outgoing Chamber Chairman of the Board John Adams. The presentation was made at the Chamber’s 107th Annual Dinner, at the Hotel Sofitel.
This Award, called the Chairman of the Board’s Award, is the Chamber’s highest. Created in 1970, its purpose is to recognize the one person who more than anyone else made the greatest impact on the success of the Chairman’s year.
Morantes has served on the Chamber’s Board of Directors for 10 years, serving as a Vice Chair for 2
years. A Captain on the Chamber’s Membership Drive, signing 10 new members. This years co-founder of the Chamber’s newest Committee - the Latino Business Outreach. Memo has served as a Chamber Ambassador for many years. Serves on the Chamber’s Golf tournaments committees and is known to provide his world famous margaritas to all the golfers who pass through "Memo’s Fiesta Hole".
Morantes, a 1995 Leadership Redwood City/Belmont/San Carlos graduate, serves on the San Mateo County United Way. Peninsula Habitat for Humanity, Latino Leadership Council, Sequoia Hospital Community Advisory Council, Sequoia Awards Committee, HIP Housing Advisory Board and the Hispanic Community Foundation Board to name only a few on an inumerable list. Memo was recently re-elected to the San Mateo County Board of Education and now serves as its President.
