2007 Annual Progress Seminar Sees Exceptional Program Set

As the Progress Seminar Planning Committee held its last meeting this month even they were excited about how dynamic, topical, and vital this year’s program will be. Co-Chairs of the event, San Mateo County Supervisor Rich Gordon, Redwood City Vice-Mayor Rosanne Foust and San Mateo County Supervisor Adrienne Tissier along with representatives from up, down and around the county have worked hard to present a program worthy to attract over 300 San Mateo County business and government leaders.

The Seminar, always an important venue to Statewide Officials, this year has scheduled for Saturday morning, Kim Belshé , Secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, sharing the podium with San Mateo County Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson and California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner as its Saturday Luncheon Keynote.

Sunday morning will feature Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo, in an informal setting providing an excellent opportunity to hear first hand the latest from Washington in an exchange with well known moderators from Peninsula T.V Bob Marks and Mark Simon.

The format of the Progress Seminar is more than keynote addresses as it also allows time for attendees to participate in an important exchange of ideas during six breakout sessions with about 50 people each. The breakouts, with a moderator and 3 to 4 panelists who are knowledgeable in their field, run concurrently and change their audience every hour.

The breakout topics this year will be led by some really top-of-the-line experts. The Eco-Friendly Practices for Business and Government breakout will have Helen Burt, Sr. VP, Chief Customer Officer, Pacific Gas & Electric, Carl Guardino, President/CEO, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, and John Suppes, President, Clarum Homes. The Healthcare Breakout will include Kim Belshé who will remain after her morning address, and Melissa Stafford Jones, President/CEO, California Association of Public Hospitals & Health Systems. Also, attracting interest from the State is the breakout on the New California Network, an organization which is striving to make California safe, healthy and prosperous by working to make the state government fiscally sound, smartly managed and publicly accountable, as State Senators Joe Simitian and Leland Yee will participate on the panel along with the Chairman, Mike Nevens and the Executive Director, James Mayer of New California Network. Rounding out the panel will be Lenny Mendonca, McKinsey & Co.

Three panels are still in the formation stage, one of which is the concern over the local impact of Criminal Justice in California addressed by San Mateo County Sheriff, Greg Munks and Undersheriff, Carlos Bolanos, and Elizabeth Howard, Legislative Representative, Administration of Justice, California State Association of Counties. Transportation, Preparing for Growth and Preserving our Mobility will feature Jim Bourgart, State of California Deputy Secretary for Transportation and Infrastructure, CA Business, Transportation & Housing Agency. Sean Randolph, President/CEO, Bay Area Economic Forum will be featured on the Economic Development-Best Practices panel.

The Progress Seminar will take place Friday to Sunday, April 13-15, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency, Monterey. For registration information please contact the Chamber at (650) 364-1722 or email amy@redwoodcitychamber.com
