A Message From Chairman Of The Board, Barry Jolette
REDWOOD CITY, CA - March 3, 2006 Two months into the new year, and your Chamber has been very busy working to make our area a better place to work and live.
On January 26, we celebrated the successes of last year at our Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet. It was a great event with a full house as usual. Special recognition was given to Pete's Harbor and Electronic Arts in receiving the Chamber's Golden Apple Award for their contributions to the education community. And Mary Huss, publisher of the San Francisco Business Times was the recipient of the Athena Award. And a host of Chamber volunteers and staff lead by our past chairman Mike Giari were thanked for their contributions.
At the recent Board meeting, your Board addressed several items of community concern. They voted to support the concept of the Stanford Outpatient Center in Redwood City. They also voted to support San Mateo County's Solicitation Ordinance which is aimed at improving the situation for day workers in North Fair Oaks.
Looking ahead, plans are moving ahead for the annual Progress Seminar to be held April 7-9 in Monterey and registration is filling up fast. There will be six breakout sessions on topics of interest to our area. And it will be a great opportunity to mix with business and political leaders from all over the County.
And for fun, think about participating in the Wells Fargo Benefit Golf Tournament at the Stanford Golf Course on May 8 when the Chamber partners with Kainos to raise money for an excellent community cause. And on March 30 hope to see all you at the next "Good Morning Redwood City."
And it is not too late to share the good experience of Chamber membership with a friend. Every year we undertake a special membership drive to bring new members into the Chamber. Membership is definitely one of the best values around as staff and volunteers work tirelessly to promote our business community and quality of life in general. So don't keep it a secret. Tell a friend about the many benefits of Chamber membership so they can join the "family" today.
