Chairman's Farewell Message
REDWOOD CITY, CA - November 29, 2005 As I look back on my year as chairman of the Chamber, there are many high points in the work accomplished by this great business organization.
One of the most outstanding was the Progress Seminar, the Chamber's flagship
event, which sold out for the seventh straight year. Organized by
co-chairs, Rich Gordon, Jim Hartnett, and Adrienne Tissier, this year's
Progress Seminar covered topics important to all of the communities on the
Peninsula from water supply to preschool for all. The ideas and energy
generated by this event propelled the Chamber to organize the first ever
Progress Seminar ReMixed. Business people and community leaders gained
beneficial insight into the psychology of change and how to make our
communities a better place to live and work, which is really what the work
of our Chamber is all about.
Other highlights from this past year that shouldn't be overlooked are the:
- Leadership Class of 2005/06, which will be the 18th year of this valuable
program with its largest class ever of 38 students.
- The successful and fun Wells Fargo Invitational Benefit Golf Tournament,
which raised $30,000 for the Kainos program.
- The Chamber's Economic Forecast featured nationally recognized investment
strategist James W. Paulsen, who gave us his views on the national and
global economic trends impacting our business world.
There were many other informative and fun events organized by scores of
Chamber volunteers and attended by hundreds of Chamber members; all of which
are too numerous to recap. However, they demonstrated the value that the
Chamber brings to its members and why we are the third largest Chamber in
the Bay Area.
All of these accomplishments during the past year, would not have been
possible without the support and involvement of the Chamber Board of
Directors, Committee chairs, Ambassadors, Chamber members and Chamber staff.
I want to thank all of you for your support and involvement during my year
as chairman.
A good corporate citizen is an involved corporate citizen. This is the
time of year when the Chamber reorganizes the Committee structure
and invites everyone to become a member on one or more of these
committees. The most valuable ongoing work of the Chamber is done
by these committees and it is the best way for you to become more
involved. The current list of Chamber committees is enclosed in this
newsletter. Please give it your attention and get involved by signing up!
I am looking forward to closing out my year as chairman and ringing in the
new Chamber year under the leadership of Barry Jolette. The annual Chamber
of Commerce Dinner will be held at the Hotel Sofitel in Redwood City and you
are all invited to come and join us in recognizing the work we have done
during the past year and toast to the future success of the Chamber.
