Connie Paniagua Named Athena Award Winner Award Co-Sponsored By Bay Area Bank

Connie Paniagua is Executive Assistant to the President/CEO at the San Mateo Credit Union

Connie Paniagua has been named the Athena Business Woman of the Year by the Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce. One of the Chamber's highest honors, the award is co-sponsored by Bay Area Bank. The Athena Award recognizes recipients for their demonstrated professional excellence, as well as their leadership role in community service and their assistance to other women in reaching their career goals. Long ago Bay Area Bank recognized the importance of the contributions made by women in the community.
Connie is Executive Assistant to the President/CEO at the San Mateo Credit Union. She joined the San Mateo Credit Union in 1991 as a part time mail clerk and worked her way up to her current position. In 1999 she was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Credit Union and her community receiving the prestigious HRD Network "Virginia Baldauf Human Resources Professional of the Year."
Connie has been actively involved with the North Fair Oaks community assisting the Sheriff's Office Community Alliance to Revitalize Our Neighborhood - gang and drug awareness and prevention programs, the development of after-school programs and various crime prevention programs. As Chair of the Parent/Youth committee she has been responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of Parents/Youth Retreat, the "Youth Activities Guide, an annual art contest, assists with the coordination of the Middlefield Cultural Festival, and is a member of the Latino Community Alliance.
Connie also serves as co-chair of the Chamber's Latino Business Outreach Task Force", is a member of the Board for Better Living for Seniors in Redwood City, and Nuestra Casa in East Palo Alto.
Connie was born and raised in El Salvador, Central America, migrating to California in the summer of 1977. She is a single mother of two college graduates,with a third one in college, and has resided in East Palo Alto since 1985.

The Athena will be presented to Connie at the Chamber's Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet on January 20, 2005 at the Hotel Sofitel.
